In a major cybersecurity incident, Chinese state-sponsored hackers infiltrated U.S. government networks, accessing sensitive documents and communications. The attack, linked to the group known as “Salt Typhoon,” was confirmed by the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). It reportedly targeted government devices and commercial telecommunications systems, compromising data such as call records and private communications .
The breaches began in late September 2024, escalating in October, and may have persisted for months before discovery. Key telecom providers like AT&T and Verizon were also affected .
