OpenAI Brings ChatGPT to Landlines and WhatsApp, Expanding AI Accessibility

OpenAI has launched a service that allows users to access ChatGPT through landlines by dialing 1-800-CHATGPT. This innovative move provides 15 free minutes of use per month for U.S. residents, making AI more accessible to older demographics, including seniors, many of whom still use landlines.

The landline feature incorporates OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode, offering real-time conversations that can adapt to interruptions and emotional tones. Alongside this, ChatGPT is now available on WhatsApp, expanding its text-based conversational capabilities.

These rollouts reflect OpenAI’s mission to democratize AI while targeting untapped user bases. 25% of U.S. adults still have landlines, but active users are far fewer, highlighting the initiative’s focus on inclusivity.
