Indian filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, renowned for movies like Satya and Sarkar, has taken a bold step into the future of music production by fully embracing artificial intelligence (AI) for his projects. Varma has launched RGV Den Music, a platform that will exclusively produce AI-generated music, and he plans to abandon human musicians entirely in his future films. His latest project, Saree, already features a soundtrack entirely composed by AI.
Varma has been critical of human musicians, citing frequent delays and creative inefficiencies as reasons for the shift. He argues that AI offers instant results at minimal cost, a stark contrast to the time-consuming and expensive process of working with human composers and lyricists. He believes that as AI technology continues to evolve, human musicians will eventually disappear from the industry.
Despite the enthusiasm from Varma and others in the creative industry, many are concerned about the implications for artists' jobs. Directors like Christopher Nolan have voiced their opposition to over-relying on AI, emphasizing the irreplaceable human element in artistic creation. Nonetheless, Varma remains optimistic about the role of AI in transforming the music and film industries.
