Canva, the popular online design platform known for its user-friendly interface, has recently found itself in hot water after implementing significant price hikes on its subscription plans. Users, particularly small businesses, freelancers, and content creators, have voiced their frustrations on social media, accusing the company of alienating loyal customers during a time of economic uncertainty.
Canva, which boasts over 125 million users globally, announced an increase in prices for its Canva Pro and Canva for Teams subscription plans. Previously priced at $12.99 per month, the Pro plan now costs $14.99, while the Canva for Teams plan saw a steeper increase, moving from $30 per month to $36 per month for up to five users. For larger teams, the pricing becomes even more expensive, with Canva rolling out new tiers based on the number of users.
Backlash has been swift. Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit are flooded with complaints from Canva users, some of whom have been using the service for years. They argue that the platform is becoming too costly for small business owners, freelancers, and non-profits who rely on Canva for affordable design solutions.
One Twitter user expressed their frustration, writing, “I loved Canva, but this price hike is ridiculous! I use it for basic tasks, and now it feels like I’m paying premium prices for features I don’t even use.”
Canva has responded to the criticism by emphasizing its commitment to providing value for money. In a statement, the company said, “We understand that any price increase can be frustrating, but we’re working hard to ensure that Canva continues to offer best-in-class tools, features, and support for our global community. These updates will allow us to invest further in our platform and continue improving the design experience for everyone.”
