Azerbaijan Airlines Plane with Over 70 People Crashes in Kazakhstan

An Azerbaijan Airlines plane carrying more than 70 people crashed shortly after takeoff in Kazakhstan, leaving dozens injured and prompting immediate investigations.
The flight, operated by a Fokker 100 aircraft, took off from Almaty International Airport but crashed approximately 19 seconds later, about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from the airport, near the village of Kyzyl Tu. Initial reports indicate the plane broke into several parts upon impact, but parts of the fuselage remained intact, offering hope for survivors .
According to officials, 66 passengers survived the crash and were rushed to local hospitals, with over 20 in critical condition . Tragically, several fatalities were confirmed, though the exact number remains unverified as investigations continue.
Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee announced that all Fokker 100 aircraft would be temporarily grounded as a precaution. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed deep sorrow over the incident and promised “severe punishment in accordance with the law” for anyone found responsible .
Emergency responders and aviation authorities remain at the scene, recovering bodies and assessing the damage. Meanwhile, families of the victims have been notified, and counseling services are being provided.
Authorities are also examining flight data and conducting interviews to determine whether mechanical failure, pilot error, or other factors caused the crash.
